I’m Nilu, the cook, author and photographer behind this blog “My Cooking Basics”, which is a journal of my cooking adventure and photography experiment. Food photography is not my cup of tea, but I'm trying to learn and improve . Currently I live in Singapore but originally from Batticaloa, Sri Lanka.

I have always been a food lover, and I learnt to cook when I moved away to Colombo for work.My culinary adventures stared way back in 2007 when my sister joined me in Colombo to pursue her higher studies.  I should thank my sister, who is as enthusiastic about food as I am. At the beginning she was the tester, should admit that her reviews and comments helped me a lot to improve my gastronomic skills. I should admit that I learnt the skills through trial and error. My husband V was lucky as I was already a pretty good cook when we married.

Over the last couple of years I have improved the skill through practice. I enjoy discovering and trying new recipes it is a journey that will continue throughout my life time. This blog is my journal of the recipes that I have tried and enjoyed.
